Hello internet friends!
I'm back with another space reveal in our Ridgemont Lake House project. If you're just joining now, over the last couple months I've been overviewing our design plan for each space in this project.
Here are the links to the individual spaces I've already showcased:
And now, lets dive into one of the more luxurious spaces in the house—the primary bedroom design!
The Primary Bedroom Design - Our Goals:
My client's have five kids between the two of them, and they wanted a space that would be serene, calming, and just for them. Similar to the other spaces in the home, my client's design inspiration was earthy, tonal, and textural. Below are a handful of her initial style inspiration images.

The space itself was grand, with cathedral ceilings, arched windows, a fireplace, and even a small balcony. Needless to say, it wasn't going to be a challenge to make this space super cozy.
Bedroom Before
Request wise, we wanted a king bed, a cozy seating area by the fireplace, *no* TV in the space, and a nice little sitting area out on the balcony. My client loves blues and greens as well, so we wanted to incorporate those colors in a subtle way.
Primary Bedroom Furniture Layout and Design Plan
Layout wise, the room was fairly straight forward. When you enter the room, there is a large wall adjacent to the windows that is clearly meant for the bed and which faces the fireplace. We planned for a king bed, large nightstands, bedside lamps, and mirrors above the nightstands.
On the wall beside the fireplace, we decided on a single chaise lounge for reading and relaxing with a floor lamp and small side table. A large canvas would hang on the wall behind the chaise.

We placed another large work of art above the fireplace, and two smaller pieces on the small wall near the floor plant. We planned on a large area rug beneath the bed, and two small outdoor dining chairs and a small bistro table outside on the balcony.
Our initial plan was to replace the carpeting with a wood flooring that would match the rest of the home, but upon further investigation, it wasn't going to be particularly easy, so they decided to postpone the wood floors until later and hold off on the rug.
Primary Bedroom Furnitures and Decor
We utilized green and taupe as our main color palette with a little bit of burnt orange to bring some warmth. I wanted everything to feel organic and natural so that my clients would feel calm and peaceful in this space.
I opted for a very tall headboard so that we wouldn't need art above the bed, and instead of artwork behind the nightstands, I chose mirrors, which are always a hit, and which are great in place of art if you already have a lot of artwork going on in a room.

I wanted to use a lot of different materials since the color palette was fairly muted: linen, metal, wood, marble, ceramic, and iron. Since the artwork was all in a similar palette as well, I chose three different mediums: paint, framed fabric, and black and white print. I also liked the texture the front of the nightstands provided, which tied in with the fluting on the base of the marble table.

The balcony was very simple since it's such a small space. We used armed dining chairs rather than lounge chairs since there wasn't a lot of space, and a small but sturdy side table made from concrete so it won't be so impacted by the elements.
And now...let's get to the primary bedroom reveal photos, shall we?? 👇👇👇
The Primary Bedroom Revealed!
If you know me and Alyssa (my fabulous photographer of almost 12 years!), you know we love a "through the door" shot. I love how you see just a peek of the main floor living room off the hallway landing, which really showcases how the spaces are related.

I opted to go with mirrors behind the nightstands rather than artwork above the bed or behind the nightstands. I really wanted this space to feel calm, bright, and airy, and mirrors would reflect the window light and also the room as a whole.

I love the modern look of the nightstands paired with the more timeless overall style direction of the bedroom. Layering styles and profiles like this helps your space have a more curated and unique look, vs. everything feeling like it came from the same catalogue page.

The lamp above may just be my all time favorite lamp. I've used it in so many projects! It's so subtle, but the closer you get the more interesting it is. It's dark dark blue green hues almost play like black, and the wave design feels calming and natural.

How special is it to have a private little oasis in your own home? My client was thrilled about the idea of a cozy chaise lounge by the fireplace where she could curl up with a book and escape the pressures of work and parenting.

Again, as with many of the spaces in this home, we worked with many different materials and textures to create interest in a fairly neutral color palette. This was done with marble, leather, linen, textiles, varying artwork mediums, and metals.

The above image is so striking to me, and once again shows how the lake view and color ways became so much a part of the direction of this project. In fact you can see how the artwork in the below image almost perfectly replicates the view out their window:

I knew I needed to bring in a warm tone in this space to balance out all the greens and blues, and when I found this burnt gold tone bolster pillow below, I knew I'd found the thing!

Thanks so much for tagging alone with me as I revealed each of the spaces in this project. Scale wise, it was my largest project by far. It wasn't an overly complicated project and I had the pleasure and joy of working with clients who were incredibly trusting and easy to work with (not always the case!).
It's been very rewarding to revisit each space and remind myself of all the planning and intentionality that went into every piece.
If you think you might be on your way to needing to furnish a larger space like this one, these are my favorite types of projects and where my skill set really sings. Get started by telling me a little about your own project and vision here.
