The Kids Bedroom Designs (slash Guest Rooms) in Our Ridgemont House Project

Hello dear friends! I'm back with another space in our Ridgemont Lake House project—which we actually installed last week! I'm so excited to photograph this space later this summer, but for now, let's continue working our way through the room designs.

If you're just joining now, over the last couple months I've been overviewing our design plan for each space in this project. You can see an overview of the full project scope here, and here are the links to the individual spaces I've already showcased:

And now, lets dive into the kid's/guest bedrooms!

The Kids Bedroom Rooms Designs - Our Goals:

There are five kids of varying ages in my clients family, though it would be likely that not all would be at the house at the same time. That said, we wanted to try to maximize sleeping options, and also keep in mind that these spaces should be able to flex from kid's bedrooms to guest bedrooms fairly easily, so we wanted designs that felt mature, but also not stuffy.

Below you can see the two upstairs bedrooms and the Jack and Jill bathroom that connects the two. Each bedroom has a vanity inside the actual bedroom with the connecting space containing the shower and toilet, which I personally find to be a super functional design.

The wall color in these two rooms was quite dark, and most of my clients inspiration was bright, airy, natural. So, we decided on Greek Villa for all the walls as our base, knowing I would bring in some color and texture with all the furnishings and decor.

Kid's Bedroom #1 Furniture Layout and Design Plan

The first room was slightly smaller than the second, and while we tried to figure out a way to make two beds fit in here, it just didn't make sense. So, we opted for one queen bed, and filled out the rest of the space with functional and cute bedroom furniture.

We'd swap out the ceiling fans in both rooms for updated fixtures, and also made sure to utilize a large mirror and wall hooks in both spaces for extra functionality.

For this space, I leaned into a slightly more feminine style with floral prints and a more traditional style rug. We used light natural oak tones, greens, and blues, and utlized some nice textures as well on the textiles.

Kids' Bedroom #2 Furniture Layout and Design Plan

I was especially proud of this second bedroom layout, in which we managed to fit two QUEEN beds, which would share a single central nightstand. Each bed also got a small wall mounted plug-in lamp on the wall side for the instances where potentially two couples were being hosted.

I wanted to make a way to make the headboard wall feel less asymmetrical, which really just meant finding the right balance and scale. I found a beautiful framed artwork set that hung off center with the nightstand but centered on the windows, and that really helped lock in that focal wall.

Two beige beds with plaid cushions, side table with lamp, paintings, windows with blinds, and folded bedding. Text reads "Kid's | Guest Bedroom #2".

I used one large area rug beneath both beds to help everything feel unified, and went with a soft green tone for the bedding. To give it a slightly more masculine touch, I added grey plaid bolsters on the beds, and I also brought in some interesting modern art on the two side walls.

Kids bedroom elevation: two beds, a central nightstand with a lamp, windows, and artworks. Labels indicate bedframe, lamp, and windows.

For this particular room, I created a very simple elevation of the headboard wall to show the clients how the to-scale furniture would lay out on that wall. It was a bit of a wonky space to use this way (though it did NOT turn out wonky!!) so I really wanted to give them confidence that the plan was going to work out great.

Art accents for kid's bedroom: abstract landscape, two figure sketches, beaded-edge mirror, three metal hooks. Minimalist and neutral.

Above you can see the artwork we used on the two side walls, the "big cool mirror" (as my handyman affectionally named it) which would hang on the entry wall, and the gorgeous wall hooks from rejuvenation that could be used for towels, robes, or sweatshirts, etc.

Kids' bathroom decor: wall shelf, towel hooks, towel bars, art of person on chair by pool, gray checkered towels. Neutral tones.

Lastly, we added some interesting and functional elements to the shared shower/toilet area. We selected a large shelf that would hang above the toilet for additional towel and toilet paper storage.

We also chose matte black towel bars and robe hooks to make the space super functional for three kids to share, as well as some very fun summery artwork. Our towels were also super fun and brought in the teal motif which was prominent throughout the entire house.

Up Next...

Next week we're taking a look at the last two spaces in the house, the primary bedroom/balcony, as well as the lower level guest bedroom.

Stay tuned!

As a student of Pay someone to do my law assignment, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to contribute your ideas to the work. As a result, they will write the assignment for you, but the credit for the concept will be entirely yours. This enables you to have full control over the content of your assignment and saves you from flying in the dark if a professor questions you about it. It is entirely up to you whether you want to do that work for the entirety of the assignment or only a part of it.
